Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, April 11, 2021
Today’s Text: 1 Timothy 6:11-16
Key Verse: 1 Timothy 6:12 (NLT) — “Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses.”
Many Christians don’t remember whose children they are. They forget they belonged to the greatest warrior who ever lived, the man Christ Jesus, who conquered death and hades, and conquered the whole world without drawing a sword. The greatest force around Him ever probably were children that gathered at His feet. But didn’t He show us how to fight good for the genuine faith which comes through Him? Yes, He did. We only need to look on Him and take up His yokes and learn of Him, and follow in His steps. When we consider the call to let the mind of Christ be in us (Philippians 2:6), we must remember our savior gave up equality with God and His full glory to become a human to become our conquering through His sacrifice for all.
When we consider what Paul wrote in today’s text, we find that he is calling us back to the life and pathway to which God has called us. Instead of the covetous struggle for wealth, fame and office, there ought to be the faithful struggle to lay hold on the prize of eternal life. “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall [fight to] gain the whole world, but lose his soul?" (Mark 8:36) Even all religious militants and suicide bombers will end up disappointed when they find out the truth after death that God did not call anyone to such useless and needless violence. But, with the metaphor of the Grecian Olympic contests in mind, Paul admonishes us to rise above the pitfall of pitiful struggle for perishable and useless things. Instead, we are to fight the noble fight of faith, of which the real prize is eternal life.
Quote for the Day: “Christian life is a contest, a continuing struggle against the world, the flesh, and the devil.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, give me daily strength to fight the good fight of faith. Please keep my eyes on eternity, in Jesus name. Amen.
Please have a glorious Sunday, with all my love and prayer,
