Grace in Place of Grace

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, August 17, 2021

Today’s Text: John 1:15-18

Key Verse: John 1:16 (NIV): “Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.

One of the most glorious aspects of our life in union with Jesus Christ is the boundless ocean of Divine grace, which is available to us each passing day and moment. God's grace is that unfathomably deep ability to smile during draughts. It is the spirit behind the seemingly tideless calm during storms. All these, and much more that eyes have not seen and ears have not heard and never have the hearts of men ever perceived reside in Jesus Christ alone. John’s gospel makes it clear that all the blessings associated with grace come from the fullness of Christ alone. They do not come from efforts. No, not from race; not from philosophy and not from human accreditation. God in His wisdom and predetermination has purposed that whatever is His — all divine nature and attributes — shall reside in Jesus Christ alone.

The blessings and the grace of Christ is for all. Especially, as long as you receive it. There is the difference between giving and receiving. For it is written that “to those who receive Him, He gives the power to become sons of God.” Our empty, poor, weak and fallen nature always denies us the free gifts of God. Its arguments fail to receive. But when we come to Jesus Christ by faith; we are open to this great sea of grace in Christ. The term fulness is a deeper than philosophy and theology. But it is a spiritual term that indicates plentitude of the revealed glory, grace and truth of Christ. God already has made it ready in the very moment of Christ's proclamation: “It is finished” on the cross. It is therefore remaining the responsibility of all peoples of the world to be receptive according to their measure of faith. The fulness each of us receives of Christ is in the exact measure of his receptivity.

Quote for the Day: “Our empty, poor, weak and fallen nature always denies us the free gifts of God.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, how we thank You for Your love and forgiveness. How we thank-you for the fulnnes available through your grace. Please help us to be open to you so that we may swim in your fulness, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
