Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Sunday, June 21, 2026
Today’s Text: John 15:9–17
Key Verse: John 15:13 (ESV) — “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

Today’s threshing brings us into the heart of Jesus’ farewell words to His disciples, where He unveils the measure of true love. This is not sentimental love, convenient love, or love based on return; it is covenant love that moves toward sacrifice. In the setting of John 15, Jesus is speaking to men who will soon see His cross, and He explains that the highest expression of love is self-giving, costly, and redeeming. On this Father’s Day, we are reminded that the greatest fatherly pattern is not mere provision of bread, but provision of life through sacrificial love.
Jesus has just told His disciples to abide in His love and keep His commandments. Then He defines that love in unmistakable terms: “lay down his life for his friends.” In other words, greater love is not proven by words alone, but by willingness to bear cost for the good of another. This is the love displayed by Christ at the cross, where He gave not what was convenient, but what was precious. And this same love becomes the template for fathers, families, leaders, and believers who seek to reflect the character of God.
In a world that often measures love by gifts, attention, or emotion, Jesus measures love by sacrifice, faithfulness, and obedience. Fathers are called not only to protect, provide, and instruct, but also to model a love that serves, forgives, and stays. Through prayer we can receive grace to love beyond self-interest, to bless our families with consistency, and to reflect the Fatherhood of God in our homes and relationships. Where human love is weak, Christ’s greater love makes us whole and teaches us how to love rightly.
Jesus alone can define greater love because He alone fulfilled it completely. He did not merely speak about love; He demonstrated it by laying down His life for sinners and calling them His friends. Today, greater love means choosing sacrifice over selfishness, service over pride, and covenant faithfulness over convenience. It means receiving the love of Christ and then extending that same love to our children, families, and neighbors in practical, self-giving ways.
Action Steps: Today, thank God for the gift of sacrificial love revealed in Jesus Christ. Honor the fathers, father figures, and spiritual leaders who have shown you love through sacrifice and faithfulness. Ask God to help you love your family with patience, courage, and obedience. Make one deliberate act of selfless service that reflects the greater love of Christ.
Quote for the Day: “Greater love is not spoken in promises alone; it is proven in sacrifice, sustained in faithfulness, and sealed in the cross.”— (Simon Olatunji #quotablequotes)
Let Us Pray: Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing greater love through Jesus Christ, who laid down His life for us. Teach me to love like You, with sacrifice, patience, and faithfulness. Bless every father, every home, and every family today with grace to reflect Your heart. Make my life a testimony of covenant love that serves others and honors You. — in Jesus’ most glorious name. Amen.
