Guiding Voice for God’s People

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, December 28, 2021

Today’s Text: Isaiah 30:19-26

Key Verse: Isaiah 30:21 (KJV): “And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.”

Something that should be an evident recognition of our infirmities as humans is our inability to determine a safe road for ourselves. Israel’s wanderings in the wilderness shows us that God’s people are not immune to this human limitation. But today’s text is a gracious assurance that despite the fact that we are not different in frailty from other men. They need guidance, and we do need guidance. However, as God's covenant people, the mark of Christ’s difference is already on us by virtue of Christ’s established new covenant. We are always blessed to have our shepherd behind us. He leads us and speaks kindly to us. Like the shepherds of Israel are always behind their flocks, God is always behind His people. That is the essence of “voice from behind."

Our God is the good Shepherd. He is always behind His flocks. With the guidance of His staff and the corrective comfort of His rod, we cannot miss the right way. Even despite the fact that we live in a pluralistic world—a generation that is so full of ways that seem right in the eyes of men; which unfortunately are ways of destruction—God leads His men in paths of righteousness for His name sake. Any other ways are sagging ways of men. While we stand at the close of this year, we need God’s light and guidance through the journey of the coming year. We are too frail to traverse the darkness all by ourselves. Let us trust His voice to lead us through the rest of this year’s journey and onward to/through the coming year/s.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you for being my guiding light. Show me your ways, LORD, and teach me your paths. Guide me in the way I should walk in, for your righteous purpose— in Jesus’ name. Amen.
