Today’s Text: Mark 9:14-29
Key Verse: Mark 9:24 (NKJV) — “Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
What am I supposed to do that I have left undone?! Has God forgotten me?! Have I sinned against God?! Why is this happening to me?! These and many other questions flood a troubled heart; especially feeling that God is far away, or non responsive. One way or the other, we have all been in that place where we think God is not hearing us; or our prayers are not good enough; or our faith needs some work. Perhaps, the cry from this man who came to Jesus in today’s text represents your broken heart! Yours may not be over the state of a son or daughter; or a personal health situation. But like him, you may be desperately hoping that Jesus would help you. If you allow God to speak to you through this biblical healing account, then you can find great encouragement. Indeed, your present doubt can give way to a growing faith; or your little faith can get you the needed miracle.
Maybe, you have been to places and when you could not find help, you have started to feel doubt. My friend, Jesus’ words to this man, which prompted his cry for help remains his word to us today: “Everything is possible for one who believes.” There is always a season when due to our fears, or upset, a subtle weakness is revealed of our faith. Why not approach Jesus with this humble simple heart cry for help today. Lord, I believe, please help my unbelief. Never feel you are grown pass that! Growing stronger in our faith is a lifelong process. No believer is too strong to mature on his own. No, not one. So, you are not alone in your struggle. What this text is teaching us is that it is God alone that can work in our hearts to get us just where we need to be in our spiritual journey with Him. Our important part in the journey is what this man displayed: prayer for help!
Quote for the Day: “Unbelief manifests when we can’t let go of trying to control things in our own wisdom and way rather than submit to God's will or trust His ability.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord, by your strength, I refuse to succumb to pressures of life that seek to push me into a corner, rendering me helpless to move forward. I am enabled in Jesus' name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
