Today’s Text: Revelation 22:7-15
Key Verse: Revelation 22:12 (LEB): “Behold, I am coming quickly, and my reward is with me, to repay each one according to what his deeds are!”

Almost everyone dread reckoning. Whether it is a worker that knows a time approaches that s/he would be censured,; or a student awaiting a quiz or a major examination; or even a household accountability — people just dread reckoning. The book of Revelation reports how John, The Beloved, reports Jesus’ exhortation to “behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”
First, we must never feel cajoled that the promised “coming soon” has taken more than 2,000 years! Beside the fact that a thousand years with the Lord is like a day, the word "soon," in Greek more accurately means "quickly,” and has more to do with how He (Jesus) would come rather than when He would. This refers to the fact that His return will be sudden, unpredictable, and unexpected manner according to Matthew 24:36. Knowing this should trigger a response from us. Especially because the promise includes the fact that Christ shall recompense each person according to his deeds.
We must become very deliberate in thoughts and actions so that we are not afraid to stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ as faithful believers should He return in an unexpected manner soon. Whereas there is no doubt that we are living in the very final moment of times, we seem not as careful or mindful to live in such a way that our hearts are tender and remain in expectation of the Lord’s return. Each of us must ask himself: will I be ready at this or the next hour if the Lord’s return should happen suddenly upon me?
Quote for the Day: “At any thought of reckoning: a faithful person always anticipates his rewards while an unfortunate person dreads his recompense.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, like Thomas Aquinas I ask O God, “that I may fear You without losing hope, be truthful without guile, do good works without presumption, rebuke my neighbor without haughtiness, and—without hypocrisy—strengthen him by word and example. Give to me, O Lord God, a watchful heart, which no capricious thought can lure away from You” — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
