Today’s Text: Hebrews 11:4-12
Key Verse: Hebrews 11:6 (ESV): ”And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”
We all almost have a common religious pang—pleasing God. And we can be grateful
therefore for the prognosis of why this may not be possible for some: a lack of faith. God wants His creatures and children to trust Him. Faith in God is likened to the situation in which when a young boy was inside the roof ceilingwhentheirhousecaught fire; and the father stood on the ground below with outstretched arms, calling out to him, "Jump! I'll catch you."
The boy had to jump to save his life, but all the boy could see, however, was flame, smoke, and blackness. As can be imagined, he was afraid to leave the roof though the father kept yelling: "Jump! I will catch you." But the boy protested, "Daddy, I can't see you." The father replied, "But I can see you and that's all that matters."
We may not have been so favored with visible appearances of God; yes, He looks like the father talking from flames and smokes—yet, we are charged in today’s text that we must believed God is. That is, we must trust His being, and His moral judgement or government. We must trust Him both as our Redeemer and Rewarder. It is only when we trust Him in this way that we’d have the confidence to jump despite the flame, smoke, and blackness; and God will always catch us. Questions are: Do you know that God is? And do you put your trust in Him?
Quote for the Day: “A man who thinks or believes that the God that made him and all the world is distant or nonexistent is suffering not from a problem with his sense of locality, but his morality.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I put my trust and my faith in You because I know that nothing is impossible with You. You, who make ways when there is no way, are still the same, please help me to trust you daily, in Jesus name! Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
