Importunate Praying

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, April 28, 2020

Today’s Text: Luke 11:1-13

Key Verse: Luke 11:9 (NLT): "And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.”

We should never take this scripture as though God is reluctant to respond to our prayer so that He needed to be constantly entreated with a growing energy — no! Rather, we should understand what the Lord is teaching us therewith. He wants us to learn that prayer should never be reduced to a religious formality. Otherwise we’d fall back to unbelief if and when answers to it are delayed.

There will always be seasons when the fig does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines; when the olive fails and the fields produce no food; when there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls — yet our disciplined devotion must be kept growing. Many times we ask for things we think will help us, but which God knows will hurt us; sometimes we expect the answer in our own way; or at other times, we are expect the answer at the wrong time.
