In His Steps

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, June 16, 2022

Today’s Text: 1 Peter 2:18-25

Key Verse: 1 Peter 2:21 (NIV): “To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.”

A woman once told her pastor how, one day at work, she had made a substantial mistake and had thought that she would get fired for it; but instead, her boss took the blame. According to her, the only reason her boss gave for taking her blame was that he was a Christian, and at the center of his faith is the fact that Jesus took the blame for our sins on the cross. We are all debtors of the grace of Christ and have been called, in gratitude and response to the love we have received from Christ, to be willing to walk in the steps of Jesus. We might not be able to die for others. We do not even have to walk about looking for others’ blame to place upon ourselves; but we can demonstrate Christ’s amazing grace: and love for others wherever we are. We can be forgiving. We can give love and worth. And we can endure wrongs. Following Christ and being like Him in all we do is big deal for us, Christians. That’s what bearing that name means in the first place — Christlike. Being like Christ is bringing His principles and ways of life to bear on every matter and duty.
