Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Sunday, June 30, 2019
Our Text: Matthew 5:21-26
Key Verses: Matthew 5:23–24 (ESV): ”So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.”
While there is more to worship than we all seem to know, yet almost all of us seem to be aware that there’s still something we are not getting right, which makes our experience altogether different from those of the apostles. Yes, grace enables us to come and present ourselves and offerings before the Lord; but it (grace) also teaches us both to say no to ungodliness as well as not to take the seriousness of the matter for granted as mere letter.
We are to extend our act of worship from words of our lips, to meditation of our hearts, and the dispositions of our lives. God seeks and values our services and material offerings; but our worship and gifts are acceptable to Him only when the measure to which they are offered is in fellowship with Him in character and conduct. Today, one of the test of this character is in our relationships with our fellow men. We are thus charged to postpone giving to God until right relationships are established with others. Could the neglect of this be the explanation of the barrenness or lack of genuine divine revival in most worship today?
Quote for the Day: “God seeks and values our services and material offerings; but our worship and gifts are acceptable to Him only when the measure to which they are offered is in fellowship with Him in character and conduct.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, let this be the time when true worshipers will worship You in Spirit and in truth—in Jesus name. Amen.
