Increase at the End

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, February 22, 2023

Today’s Text: Hebrews 12:1-2

Key Verse: Job 8:7 (NKJV): “Though your beginning was small, Yet your latter end would increase abundantly.

Today is George Washington’s posthumous birthday. If you enjoyed President’s Day holiday on Monday, that was for a man who rose from obscurity to become the first president of the United States. His birthday is always celebrated as a federal holiday along Abraham Lincoln's annually. But what can we learn about his story? George was very young when his father died; and had to be sent to live with relatives and work at Ferry Farm to struggle for survival like most people. He had to be self-educated, privately tutored, and homeschooled by his brother Lawrence for eight years. We all have our days of little beginnings don’t we? Yes, and so do great men and women!

In the text before us, Bildad’s speech to his troubled friend, Job is an index finger of hope — a pointer of assurance that no condition is permanent. No matter our present circumstance; God always want to help us through our small beginnings. This is true in every aspect of our lives — spiritually and physically. We come to Christ as babes and novices. Our knowledge of Him small, our strength little, and our spiritual maturity imperfect. The same is true in our daily lives. We may be struggling right now; but God’s thought about us is to give us a future and a hope. The life of a believer may be likened to the vision of Ezekiel in chapter 47. It starts small but grow into a huge river that flows forth and transforms everything it touches.

Quote for the Day: “God’s dealings with us is like the river that Ezekiel saw flowing from the temple. The deeper it grows the more it takes us on; and the more its effects differ from the natural course." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, I desire increase. Please let Your kingdom and government increase in my life. Let me increase in Your knowledge and grace. O Lord, bless me and increase me on every side — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.

Your Darling Bishop (DaBishop)
