Today’s Text: 1 Peter 3:1-7
Key Verse: 1 Peter 3:3 (KJV): “Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel.”
Whether indoor or outdoor, today’s people quite dislike a lack of proper or sufficient decorations. Beautification has become a key aspect of any proper get-together—whether it is simply the hanging of balloons and streamers, or an exotic all-out customization of a personal theme for your home, party or self. People know the importance of add-ons to enhance the value of appearance. That’s why those in cosmetic businesses make so much money.
However, in our text this morning, the ostensible lifestyle is brought under a check. Christians are cautioned from focusing their attention on any surface adornment which fails to address the core of life’s true beauty. Whereas, looking good to radiate and reflect God’s glory in our lives is not the question. The use of gold and other jewelrIes or ornaments is not forbidden. Each of us are already fearfully and wonderfully made as we are. However, the text brings unbridled attention on physical beautification while neglecting spiritual outlook into question.
Nobody should be in a situation in which he or she appears or claims to be one thing when he is really something else. Every good disciple of Jesus pays premium attention on the inner life than mere outward attractions. During the days of St. Peter, many converted wealthy Jewesses and proselytes were added to the church who probably came to the gatherings parading vanity through love of dress, plaiting, putting on costly jewels, and conveyance of elaborate lifestyle. Believers best attraction must not by any means be external, but the inward graces.
Quote for the Day: “There is nothing wrong with looking good; but any intention to subject others to lustful attraction is condemned.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank You that Your truth dwells in us. And it has pleased You to reflect Your glory and splendor through us. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayers,
