Today’s Text: Psalm 91: 1-16
Key Verse: Psalm 91:3 (KJV): “Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.”
Times are hard. And, beside the global fact of war, terror and hates, it has been estimated that, at least, 1 in 5 adults may be suffering from one form of pain or the other. All of us seem surrounded by the many mysterious dangers that really get at, or to us. But Psalms 91:3 is one of my all-time favorite scriptures that go straight to heart and strengthen me personally. And I am certain that everyone feels strengthened by the fact that we have the God that wants to help us out, and be our place of refuge. And, indeed, He helps us through all the challenges and realities of this end time.
You will agree with me that while David may not be aware of COVID-19, Cancer, and other noisome pestilence of our generation, having been buffeted by a whole lot of moral, spiritual and physical epidemic, he knew what trusting God for safety and refuge is all about. Our generation has sophisticated postmodern structures; but we are not anywhere close to such assurance that David had in God. That is why he is qualified to exhort us on the certainty of divine protection. Through this Psalm, he hits the highest possible spot of assurance to help us catch a glimpse of God's picture of incredibly unfailing redemption plan for us during these perilous moments.
This Psalm, to me, gives better assurance than reading an insurance declaration page. For “Surely he shall deliver thee.” Says the Psalmist. This declaration refers to God who is not a promise and fail — the God who cares about us when life is at its bests, and during unexpected perils. He is our true assurance. He is always available, always open, and ever sure. In Psalms 34:8, David invites us to “Come, taste and see that the Lord is good.”
Quote for the Day: “O how safe it is to be hid in Christ because nothing gets to you except it gets to Him first.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, let this assurance strengthen my trust in You each day. Please help me to hold fast unto you regardless of what the enemy does — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
