Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, March 29, 2022
Today’s Text: Exodus 18:1-27
Key Verses: Exodus 18:17 (NASB): “Moses’ father-in-law then said to him, “The thing that you are doing is not good..”

Jethro was neither a Jew nor a prominent character in the Exodus of Israel out of Egypt; but he probably had the greatest influence on Exodus’s most prominent character, Moses. And he may have been his greatest help. This is true because of his wise counsel to Moses. Exodus 18 has become one of Bible’s most prominent scriptures for leadership insights today for the same reason. Gentile or Jew, ordained or lay, God in His wisdom always positions at least one Jethro in our lives one way and time or the other. If only we look around, not necessarily too far or keen, we would always find our own Jethro. And one of the greatest lessons for all of us to learn today, perhaps is: Moses, it’s not about you!
The voice of today’s Jethros and their counsel has been despised by many a Moses. Some of them have been misconstrued as the voice of envy or evil. But every Moses must learn that it is not enough just to stand in front of people. We must build the team, raise men and women that are apt to lead, and empower them for appropriate responsibilities. Every leader must learn that it’s never about him. Whenever you become the center of attention in a worship, then you have made yourself the object of the worship. That is not good: You need to heed the voice of God. Yes, he speaks through Jethro. Never make yourself the center around which everything has to revolve, or you may be on a suicide mission. The people may expect you to have all of the answers; but that’s never God’s expectation; and truth is, you do not have all the answers. So, why wear yourself out?! Why die before your time? It’s not about you!
Quote for the Day: “The man is always trapped within himself who thinks it’s all about him. Show me that man, and I will show you the man whose self deception is self destruction.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you for the richness of Your wisdom. Please, Lord, continue to nstruct me by it, train me in it, build me up through it — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
