Today’s Text: Acts 4:5-12
Key Verse: ”Only Jesus has the power to save! His name is the only one in all the world that can save anyone.” (vs. 12, Contemporary English Version)
Yesterday, God brought the futility of religion and trusting in legalistic holiness before us. We saw how we need more than the “righteousness in the Law,” or that is defined by it. God brought before us that our only hope of standing before his righteousness is found only in Jesus Christ. Our meditation today is upon where salvation may truly be found. Is it in our church gatherings and commitment to service? Is salvation found in our act of kindness or good works? Could we ever be good enough to please the perfect God? May we be saved by being sincere and living truthful lives as taught by many religions and philosophies? Why are there so may diametrically opposing ideologies and religions claiming different truism to salvation? What may we believe, and where may we truly find salvation?
Today’s text makes it very clear that salvation is found only in the person and work of Jesus Christ. While the word "salvation" is broad, we have a text before us that’s so particular on the New Testament’s exclusive position on the work of Christ — to seek and to save the lost (Luke 19:10) — a clear idea the He primarily delivers humanity from sin through His substitutionary death and resurrection.
The opinion or claims of secularists who seek pluralism and relativity does not matter here. Jesus Christ alone offers humanity hope of salvation: “For there is none other name” in which salvation of the human race may be achieved other than in the finished work of Jesus the Messiah. No other name means there is no other being or person or system or philosophy or religion, as men may suggest, that can save but Jesus Christ. Therefore, why fall prey to the world’s vain philosophy, which fails to provide definite answer and solution to your much needed salvation from sin and the wrath to come. Why not throw your felt weight of sins and inability to help yourself at the feet of Christ’s cross? Why not come as you are unto Jesus, and find salvation from every sin, guilt and shame.
Quote for the Day: “How can I ever doubt this so convincing testimony of faithful and godly witnesses when I have no options. When skeptics only rage but fail to give any other way or name. I do not only feel safe to trust the affirmation of men who knew Jesus, experienced His power, and were subjects of His grace; I have tasted the power of God unto salvation.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I’m grateful that under the terms of the covenant of grace, you offer me life and salvation by your sacrifice. All you require from me is faith. I put my trust in you, and I am forever yours Lord. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayer,
