Today’s Text: Genesis 27:33-40
Key Verse: Genesis 27:37 (NLT): “Isaac said to Esau, “I have made Jacob your master and have declared that all his brothers will be his servants. I have guaranteed him an abundance of grain and wine — what is left for me to give you, my son?””

I remember a time in my life when I found myself in a totally strange land and my friends whom I trust for soft landing turned their back unexpectedly against me. Situations got worse to the point that I had to pawn a valuable hard drive along with a notebook containing precious documents for a momentary relief. This experience gave me a picture of how we are easily blinded by spur of the moment to give up valuable things for the lesser. I got back that evening filled with thoughts about Esau — you remember that guy?! He was the Bible character that chose to give up his birthright for a pot of pottage.
God wants us to learn from the error of spiritual trade-by-barter. So many Christians take Esau’s story on a face value. By so doing, many are trapped into a spiritual system of exchange in which transaction of their lives’ best is sealed by a deal of loss, deficit and bankruptcy. Some traded their destiny upon the laps of a strange man or woman. Others trade their streams of possibilities on the alter of greed. Esau was the legal heir to the Abrahamic covenant blessings passed down to Isaac. This birthright gave him more than a double portion of the family inheritance; it makes him the priest of the dynasty; gives him the patriarchal judicial authority; and offers him a strategic link or access to the Messiah’s lineage. We say it is “just a pot of pottage; but it is greed, or a lack of self control, and he lost everything.
Quote for the Day: “In spiritual trade-by-barter, there is no midway — indeed, no mid loss or gain. When you lose one, you lose all. Don’t trade with evil.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank You for blessing me with the birthright of heirship to Your kingdom. Lord, please help me to treasure it so that I may be in want for nothing, but rather walk in the fullness of Your glorious purpose — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayers,
