Today’s Text: Revelation 2:8-11
Key Verse: Revelation 2:10 (ESV): “Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.”

As long as we are in their mortal frame of flesh, there will always be something to desire, improve, adjust and m/or nurture. None of us is perfect. We only strive daily to attain the highest humanly possible perfection as we seek God each passing day. Such is the testimony of God’s saints. It was the testimony of Paul and other earlier apostles. And, it is the true and faithful witness of the risen Lord about Ephesian Christians in today’s text. They (believers at Ephesus) we’re commended for being zealous for the Lord. They dedicated to His service. They were praised for their patience and submission under trial and persecution. And, were recognized for their purity of discipline. Yet, they are also a work in progress. The risen Lord has got something against them; of/for which they must repent and amend.
Like them, we as well must continue to dress our spirit as we match onward to the heavenly Zion. Of course, no one may be able to dispute the sincerity of your love. But if the Lord puts it to the root test are you not going to get reproved for diminished fervor? Perhaps, your love is not so much as pure, burning, and enkindling as at it used to be. O yes, things have gone wrong here and there and you have some reasonable human issues and excuses, but sorry, our Lord, the Christ is displeased with diminution of love in His people. Therefore, he brings His church to a holy reminder and return to where they have fallen. Friends, let us keep the flame of love brightly burning and glowing.
We cannot risk to be replaced. Be careful. The light of the gospel cannot be dimmed by your loss of fervor. God warns that He may remove His dimming light from our place and take it to another. The light you fail to shine in that corner is needed desperately in other lives and places. It’s a new month, and we all may as well rekindle our fervor and keep it glowing. “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God's people who are in need.” (Romans 12:11-13)
Quote for the Day: “Love is the truest evidence of all other graces of faith. Take out the seed and fruit of love and what remains is decline, decadence and depravity." (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, we repent for our arrogance, pride, lack of love or loss of it, and a lack of humility in our lives and in the body of Christ. We seek You for the restoration of our first love. We seek to truly depend upon You and not in our devices — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
Happy new month with all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
