Our Text: Matthew 6:25-34
Key Verse: Matthew 6:26 (ESV): “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”
A man sought a way to teach his little boy what his life is worth. He handed him a rock and sent him to a market to sell it. He instructed the boy not to say anything, but to only raise two fingers whenever anyone asked the worth of the rock. A woman who wanted to place the rock in her garden priced the rock and offered $2 when the boy raised two fingers. Seeing his two fingers, a museum curator offered to pay $200. A precious stone dealer saw his two fingers and offered $200,000. Unknown to the boy, in his hand was a meteorite, a very peculiar rock, rarer than gold, platinum, diamonds or emeralds.
We often despise ourselves because we don’t know our worth. Those who despise us also often fall in to the same error. But our Lord wants us to know who we are, and what we are truly worth. So he sets a lesson before us, Beasts and fowls are unemployed, we don’t see them bearing burdens, storing summer fruits, serving in treasuries, or selling pots; but they are fed without trouble. Our life is not worth what we think or others think about us, it is what what the master thinks: if we put it in His hands.
Quote for the Day: “Matthew 6:26 is an invitation to look, not with physical or mental surveillance, but with an eye of faith—for only him who uses his spiritual, not natural, eyes sees worth.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your works of grace and the opportunity I have to be yours. Please help me to continually walk in full awareness of who I am in You. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
