Large Heart for the Least

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, March 5, 2024

Today’s Text: Matthew 25:31-46

Key Verse: Matthew 25:40 (NIV): "And the King will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me."

Today’s passage reminds us of the mind of Christ concerning serving people we often consider as least. We must do so as we would be serving Christ Himself. It encourages us to care for our brothers and sisters in need, and to love one another as Christ loves us. Let us reflect on how we can put this into action in our lives, and pray for the strength to live out this calling.

Of course! In context, Jesus is saying that when we serve the most vulnerable people, like the hungry, thirsty, stranger, naked, sick, and imprisoned, we are actually serving Him directly. He identifies with those in need and considers our actions towards them as if we were doing them for Him personally. This emphasizes the importance of showing compassion and kindness to others, especially those who are marginalized or struggling, as a way of demonstrating our love and devotion to God.

As we navigate our way through the new month, may this beautiful and profound truth guide us to love others as a tangible expression of our love for God. In 1 John 4:20, it says, "If anyone says, 'I love God,' yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen." Our love for God is inseparable from our love for others. By showing love and compassion to those around us, we demonstrate the authenticity of our love for God.

Quote for the Day: “As we weave threads of kindness into the tapestry of humanity, we create a beautiful testimony of our love for God, one stitch at a time." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I come before you with grateful heart, thanking you for the opportunity to serve others and show my love for you. Help me, Lord, to continue to weave threads of kindness into the lives of those around me, that my love for you may be evident in all I do — in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
