Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, February 4, 2022
Today’s Text: Matthew 6:19–24
Key Verse: Matthew 6:20 (KJV): “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.”
You probably assume that you know the founders of Apple — Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs, right? Of course, but that’s not actually accurate. The founding partnership agreement, which dated April 1, 1976, was signed by Wozniak, Jobs, and Wayne. Ronald G. Wayne, who wasn’t an engineer, but had a ten percent ownership stake, and had a significant founding role in which he designed the first logo, wrote the user manual and provided administrative oversight of the new venture until he, Wayne, had a second thought, being unwilling to risk any possible liability for any prospective debts by the new company. So, he and the others signed a second document in which he gave up his ten percent stake, in exchange for $800. The rest is history.
Our interest in money or urge for it is always a revelation about our spiritual frame of mind. Your agitation on earthly treasure and material things is evidence of a heart condition. Wayne’s $800 would probably have been worth about 80 billion dollars today if he was not agitated for a lesser treasury then. But, the same goes for us. It is easy to be influenced by the world and therefore thinks as the world thinks. The prevalent attitude is, "this is my money, my house, my car; I can do with it what I please." But you need to embrace a basic biblical truth and that is that God owns everything: "the earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof: the world, and they that dwell therein" (Psalm 24:1). Therefore, God should be our priority. Heavenly treasures, which are better than earthly ones should be our goal. God wants us to change our perspective. Do not spend your days in needless agitation and exhaust your strength on living for the NOW. Lay up for eternity.
Quote for the Day: “If Martin Luther, the German reformer said he “would not give one moment of heaven for all the joy and riches of the world;” why should you, and why would I?!” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to put lesser things of life behind as I make all possible spiritual efforts to keep greater and better treasures in view—in Jesus name. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
