Today’s Text: Proverbs 13:18-25
Key Verse: Proverbs 13:22 (ESV): “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the sinner’s wealth is laid up for the righteous.”
Today, America and the whole world remember and celebrate the life and legacies of Martin Luther King Jr. (1929 – 1968), an American Baptist minister who led civil rights revolution for people of color through peaceful protest and civil disobedience. He is remembered today in fulfillment of scriptures and a demonstration of the heritage of freedom and justice which he left for all peoples of color. The scriptural text for our meditation, today, teaches that all good things done by us have a way of being re-payed by several physical and spiritual blessing that shall be brought forward further on generations after us. No labor goes in vain or unrewarded. God is never unrighteous to forget any man’s labor of love. It is therefore important to give careful thoughts to the ways we live. Because in many ways, the effects of our actions go down to overtake, rob on, and affect our generations yet unborn.
This is the time to examine ourselves on the legacies we would leave should the reward of our lifestyle be passed down in part or full to generations after us. This goes far beyond just transferring monetary assets to your children or just passing on a good name. It has a far deeper spiritual dimension of blessing. So, ask yourself: Will your life hold great things in reserve for your seeds or leave them in regrettable pathways? Being a good man pays in many way. First, God is happy with you, you are satisfied with yourself, your happiness is transmitted or transferred as legacies to generations of your children as inheritance, and God rewards you with the wealth of the wicked. Our rewards are like the memorial stones which God told Joshua to lay up so that “…when your children ask in time to come, saying, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’ …these stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.” (Joshua 4:6,7)
Quote for the Day: “People set up memorial tombstones; but the best legacy any man can leave is in the living stones set up on people hearts as a testimony of faith from generation to generation.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for the legacies of faith left for us throughout scriptures. Thank you for the impact of godly men and women of old on us. Please help me, Lord, to live my life in a way that I, too, can make a difference and shape the lives of others for You — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
Happy Martin Luther King Day with all my Love and Prayers,
