Lest Darkness Overtake You

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, October 5, 2023

Today’s Text: John 12:23-36

Key Verse: John 12:35 (NKJV): “Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.”

We have continued to witness huge fulfillment of almost all sights of the end of times; and the reaper seems ready to thrust his sickles. Unfortunately, many Christians are caught in the web for not acting upon what the had foretold and cautioned us about. We are so careless about our need to follow and obey the light. That is why the light of many is now turning into darkness. Meanwhile, our Lord already cautioned us lest the light that is in us be not turn into darkness. Otherwise, that darkness will be great.

Once a believer loses sight of sober living, forsakes humility, ignores the matter of obedience and rejects any instruction of God and begins to pursue self will—regardless of how actively involved in ministry they are—their spiritual life begins to disintegrate within them. We must continue to apply the truth of the word of God to our lives. As a believer, you have the responsibility to work out what God works in to every area of your life; lest the light that you possess itself proves to be a curse.

The most difficult person to deal with is the one who has the prideful self-satisfaction of a past experience, but is not working that experience out in his everyday life. Sanctification is continuing experience of all Christians, an experience that must be so genuine and evidential in the way we live. As we already know that we are the generation upon which the end has come, and that our salvation is nearer than when we believed, we must therefore beware of any belief that makes us self-indulgent or self-gratifying.

Quote for the Day: “The life of a believer: physical, moral, or spiritual, must align with the standard of the crucified Christ in everyday and every way.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer:  Dear Lord, the Author of light; Creator of all that is good, perfect, holy, and righteous Father, please help me to keep my gaze fixed steadily on the light of your divine Presence. Teach me to walk in Your light, in goodness, righteousness, and truth — in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
