Let God Fight For You

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Thursday, October 23, 2025

Today’s Text: Exodus 14:10–14

Key Verse: Exodus 14:14 (KJV): “The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”

The children of Israel were in a terrible bind. The Red Sea lay before them, and the formidable Egyptian army, led by Pharaoh, was rapidly closing in behind them. They were trapped, terrified, and began to cry out and blame Moses for leading them to die in the wilderness. It was a moment of absolute human impossibility and total despair. But it was also the perfect stage for God to reveal His mighty power. Moses' response to their panic is a timeless directive for every believer facing an overwhelming, seemingly unwinnable battle: "Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD."

Often, when we are under pressure, our first instinct is to panic, to run, or to try and fight the battle in our own strength. We strategize, worry, and exhaust ourselves trying to fix what only God can resolve. The Israelites were ready to go back to slavery, a familiar misery, rather than trust God for an unprecedented miracle. But Moses told them to do three things that defy human logic: "Fear ye not," "stand still," and "hold your peace." These are the same calls coming for us too, today, from the same God. And, they are not calls for passivity; they are commands for active trust. What's in these calls for us?

To "stand still" means to maintain your position of faith, refusing to retreat or compromise. To "hold your peace" means to quiet your anxious thoughts, silence your complaints, and stop attempting to take God’s job from Him. When God says, "The LORD shall fight for you," He is asking you to surrender your weapons of anxiety and your efforts to Him. This battle was too big for Israel, and it’s too big for you. That is precisely the point. The battles we face—in our careers, our health, our families, or our finances—are not always overcome by personal effort or any clever strategy.

The believer’s battles are often won by divine intervention. God doesn't just promise to assist us; He promises to take over the fight Himself. Our role is one of trust and obedience, allowing His strength to be made perfect in our weakness. When we rest in Him, we position ourselves to "see the salvation of the LORD." The miracle of the Red Sea split happened because the people obeyed this simple, profound instruction.

This lesson is a call to faith over frenzy. Do not be paralyzed by fear or moved by the sight of your enemies. Your victory is not in your hands but in God’s. The power that parted a sea and swallowed an army is fighting for you today.

Action Steps: Identify one major battle you are currently facing. Refuse to panic or try to resolve it in your own strength. Practice the phrase, “The LORD shall fight for me, and I shall hold my peace.” Be deliberate in replacing every fearful thought with this promise. Trust Him to show up and show out on your behalf.

Quote for the Day: “Rest is not the absence of trouble, but the presence of trust. When we let God fight our battles, peace is our posture, and victory is our portion.” (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Almighty Father, Oh how I thank You for this reminder that the battle belongs to You. Forgive me for the times I have panicked, tried to fight in my own strength, and forgotten Your mighty power. I surrender my fears and my anxiety to You now. Help me to stand still in faith and to hold my peace, knowing that You are fighting for me. I look to You, the God of the impossible, to see Your great salvation in my life today–in Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
