Today’s Text: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
Key Verse: Ecclesiastes 3:5 (ESV): “A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing.”
So, we waved good bye to Pastor Thomas amid tears of joy. It was very difficult but God has already comforted us because she is only asleep in Christ. Whenever letting go of something is difficult to do; we can turn to this scriptural truth for strength and comfort. When I was a little boy, I love kites a lot. We enjoyed holding the strings. It’s so much fun; but it’s even much more fun to watch it go if or when we either deliberately or mistakenly let go of the strings.
There is time for everything. And it’s not only letting go of a departed loved ones; sometimes, it is letting go of anything withholding us from doing the right thing in our lives. This text offers us powerful wisdom and strength. From it, we may draw tremendous strength, courage and the determination to let go of the shame and guilt that can stop us from pursuing the right things. It can help us to let go of the weakness we may feel at difficult times and become strengthened.
Yes, we feel strengthened if we understand the basic assumption and inspiration behind every line of this text. To expect unchanging frenzy and friendship in a rapidly changing world is self deception that must end in disappointment. This understanding will always help us to accept God's whole plan, ways and leading as altogether wise, just, good and perfect. And that’s all it takes to trust God. That’s all it takes to let go.
Quote for the Day: “We cast away things we gathered when we change our mind about their worth and use. When we grow up, it’s easy to let go of childish things.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to be who and what you want me to be. Give me strength, faith and hope, and most of all, give me guidance each passing day to trust and follows our wisdom— in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my Love and Prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
