Light in the Dark World

Daily Scripture Threshing for Tuesday, October 18, 2022

Today’s Text: Ephesians 5:8-14

Key Verse: Ephesians 5:8 (ESV): “For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”

Light is an incredibly essential and effective commodity. I remember meeting a blind high school boy who completely changed my orientation to life—revealing, in his conversation, how much people who have eyes underrate the gift of light. Light is life. It changes any environment unto which it is introduced. You can hide yourself from the light; but never the light from yourself; nor from anything. The only known negative aspect or influence of light is that it is a ruthless hinderance to darkness. Other than this, light always influences us positively. It helps us convert colors into images and images into reality. Light illumines our dark world.

We appreciate light more when we understand how we were once darkness; but now are made light in/through the Lord. That is why it is important we all live as children of light so that we may truly unearth all the blessings and benefits of light to this darkened age. We are therefore admonished to walk as children of light—not as in imitation of what we are not; but as a demonstration of what we are. This is worthy of mention so that the phrase “as children of light” may not be misconstrued. If we do walk the walk , the through us, the fruit of the light which consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth will beam its great reflection upon our dark world. It will reveal all fruitless deeds of darkness, and bring gospel light into visibility.

Prayer: Dear Lord, I thank you for always being a light in the dark places of my life and world. My hope, O God, is in You. Thank You for calling me to be lights for others. Please help me so that Your light and love may blaze in/through me to all the world — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
