Today’s Text: Matthew 26:14-25
Key Verses: 2 Matthew 26:21 (AMP): “And as they were eating, He said, “I assure you and most solemnly say to you that one of you will betray Me.”

One of the saddest and most trying moments in the life of Jesus was the night He was betrayed: even before He paid the ultimate price for sin. The Last Supper was almost over when He broke the silence. He already knew that among them was the one that would betray Him. He knew that after the betrayal, would come His suffering, and then the bitter cup of death. It was so much of a hard pill to swallow for the apostles so much that a dispute arose among them that they began to question among themselves which of them it might be who would do this. Isn’t treachery worse than betrayal?! But more than these, it was a moment of soul search for all His disciples.
44 years before, Julius Caesar suffered incredible treachery. His final expression, “Et Tu, Brute?” which is the Latin phrase meaning "and you, Brutus?" demonstrates the pain of being betrayed by a man trusted, and favored as a son. Yet, Brutus’ treacherous act is never considered as terrible as the act of Judas Iscariot. Imagine enemies paying only 30 pence to Jesus’ most trusted friend to capture him!
Friends, every one of us is a mystery to him or herself. Sometimes we don’t know what we are doing, or capable of doing. But whatever it is, may we not "Judas" our Lord during these tough and difficult-to-stand. Our key verse today provoked such a moment of self-examination among Christ’s disciples that evening. They took those words not in indignation, not in accusing or suspecting one another; but each drew back from his brother in self-examination. Whereas, we always look for scapegoats without; but what about the scapegoat within? Or should I say, what if the scapegoat is within?
So, like Jesus’ disciples, let this cross-examination be done by each of us, not towards our brother, not towards others outside the fold, but each of us towards himself. They did not question the truth of what their Lord said. They already trust His word as Yea and Amen. He is the true and faithful witness. They did not look around, or point to someone else, and ask, “Is it him?”Instead, they searched their souls with exceeding sorrow, and each one of them went back to Jesus, asking “Lord, is it I?” Where are such soul-searching questions today?! O let there be no times in our lives when any of us will deny, betray or forsake the Lord of life. Let no treachery be found in me.
Quote for the Day: “No man is immune to sin. Otherwise the admonition ’He who thinks he stands let him take heed lest he falls’ will not be necessary.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, touch me, and fill me with Your light and m hope. Please give me grace for self examination, strength when I am weak, love when I feel forsaken, courage when I am afraid, wisdom when I feel foolish, comfort when I am alone, hope when I feel rejected, and peace when I am in turmoil, in Jesus' name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.

Mmhmmm Let us not be a Judas, that is deep, and I love the story of the disciples and the book of Mathew.
