Meekness is not a Weakness

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, January 26, 2024
Today’s Text: Matthew 11:25-30
Key Verse: Matthew 11:29 (KJV): "Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”

Most people think of meekness as a weakness. If you are meek, you are taken for a ride or a fool. But this is certainly neither the Biblical idea, nor the Jesus's view. A wild horse that has been tamed is no less strong, it is only now more useful to any man. That is the Jesus model: He was meek, but never weak. He is compassionate and strong. At His Sermon on the Mount, He told us that the meek will inherit the earth because He wants us to learn His form of humility which is sorely lacking in our culture. He understands that we are not meek by nature, and that we need the help and work of the Spirit of God.
Biblical characters and other godly men learned meekness, but not by nature. God worked meekness into Moses over a 40-year period. O Peter! He was such a raw example of a naturally non-meek character. He was impetuous man but the Holy Spirit transformed him to a better stronger characterof a meek leader. Saul of Tarsus was not meek. He prided himself in persecuting God's saints but when he encountered Jesus, he became the first to teach that “The fruit of the Spirit is gentleness, goodness, and meekness.” Would you allow your encounter during this moment to count? Would you ask Jesus to melt you into a meek and gentle soul. If that's you: just call on Him today, it's never a weakness. It's a source of strength.
Quote for the Day: “Human nature is proud, not meek. But the Spirit of God transforms our lives through the new birth, and gives us power to to be made into the image of Christ." — Simon Olatunji
Prayer: Dear Lord and Father, I pray that I might be loving and gentle like You. I ask that You would create in me a meek and quiet spirit. Give me the grace to increase in humility, in peacefulness, and in living each day in a way that honors the Truth of who I am in You — in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
