Mid Year Revival Cry (Part 18): An Increased Sense of God’s Call

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, June 30, 2023

Today’s Text: Acts 2:36-47

Key Verses: Acts 2:39 (NLT): “This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.”

The Bible is filled with examples of how God calls His men—Abraham, Noah, Moses, Samson, Gideon, Samuel, Elijah, Elisha, Isaiah, Jeremiah, other major and minor prophets, and anew Testament apostles. The word “call” in the Old Testament refers to a divine instruction to carry out specific task for Him. Under the New, it is progressively different: it is used to refer to God's initiative first to bring people to the saving knowledge of Christ, and then to align the saved into an active participation in His redemptive work on earth.

Indeed, all marks of revival are consistent with those (marks) of the divine call. They somewhat start from confrontation of the human will, to introduction of the divine, to commission, to human objection due to sense of inadequacy, then to divine reassurance, and a confirmation of the call. There cannot be a revival without people sensing God’s calling to God’s kingdom service, whether in vocational ministry or in their daily lives. The outpouring of the Holy Spirit on all flesh on the day of Pentecost indicates God’s intention of inclusion for all believers in His kingdom business. Our mission will therefore be from Jerusalem, to Samaria, to Judea and to the uttermost part of the earth.

Every revived believer senses such calling not just in religious circles but in everything he does. Remember: Moses was a shepherd, Gideon, a military leader; Isaiah, and Jeremiah, political voices, and Ezekiel, a social critic—and they all made full proof of their ministries. It is, therefore, an error to limit God’s call to religious vocations today. We are all God’s royal priests whether we are shepherds, artisans, businessmen, musician, food vendor, statesman, teachers, and/or soldiers. Just as it was with Moses, revival fire turns whatever ordinary tool is in our hand (Exid 4:2) into God’s miraculous use.

Quote for the Day: “The greatest miracle of revival is in the divine conversion of ordinary people to God’s veritable instrument of change.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank You today for reviving a new spirit in me today. I ask that You give me a refreshing, from Your Holy Spirit, that I may be quickened to be Your ambassador for change in this world—in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,
