Today’s Text: Habakkuk 3:3-16
Key Verses: Habakkuk 3:6 (ESV): “He stood and measured the earth; he looked and shook the nations; then the eternal mountains were scattered; the everlasting hills sank low. His were the everlasting ways.”
Here, the prophet Habakkuk figuratively describes a vivid design of the evidence of revival when God is present with His people. Kingdoms, states, kings and princes—greater and lesser—are shaken, moved, taken and brought into subjection. “The sea looked and fled; Jordan turned back. The Red Sea saw them coming and hurried out of their way! The water of the Jordan River turned away. Sea took one look and ran the other way; River Jordan turned around and ran off.” (Ps 114:3) The ultimate biblical revelation here is in its foreshadowing or prefiguring of God’s ultimate plan to take all nations through the preaching of the Gospel. This is the New Testament evidence that the power of Christ is in attendance to His Church.
Habakkuk’s oracle means that by the Church’s conquest of the world, nations should be brought to yield unto Him, at the downfall of paganism, sensuality, secularism and modernity. He saw kings and great men calling to the rocks (Jesus) to hide them from the wrath of the Lamb (who is also Christ). That’s what should happen when revival is the case. Otherwise we must cry to God to revive His work in the middle of the year. When there is revival, there should be an evangelistic and ethical overspill into the world. The church’s new life should overflow from the pulpits to the pews and invariably for the conversion of nations and reconstruction of the human society.
Revival makes Christians fearless witness, selfless disciples, lovers of one another and tireless proclaimers of Christ by their words and deeds. 12 unlearned men with revival fire in their bosom turned the world right side up but millions of tongue talking modern literate Christians sit comfortably in communities of corrupt consciences and untoward negative values. O how we need genuine divine revival in which God acts quickly, His truth spreads, people are born again and grow in Christ, with amazing desired and abiding rapidity.
Quote for the Day: “Revival is the evidence of God's presence marked by attendance to His word which provokes acute concern for sin, love for Christ, unspeakable joy in worship, unalloyed awe of God, genuine love for brethren and an active tireless witness to the saving grace of Jesus.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Lord Jesus, we call Your name today. We thirst for Your move in clear and bold way. We want You to do a new thing in our hearts and lives. Let there be spiritual awakening that will cause our hearts to be on fire for You again. Move us to thirst for Your truth, and reveal Your glory in us—in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
