Today’s Text: Habakkuk 3:1-16
Key Verses: Habakkuk 3:2 (ESV): “O Lord, I have heard the report of you, and your work, O Lord, do I fear. In the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.”

I got a call from an Australian woman yesterday. She is a very sincere Christian laity who has been following the Mid Year Revival Cry series. She was concerned as to why a genuine worship cannot have the “wow-worthy perks and flavors” (to use her words). Of course, encountering God is not inconsistent with happy outburst of joy in worship. Psalm 98:4-6 calls all the earth to burst into jubilant song and make music to the LORD with the harp, trumpets and the blast of ram's horn. Worship ushers us into the presence of God where there is fullness of joy. However, we must never lose the main purpose of worship, which is to bring us closer to the holiness of God—which is an experience, not an experiment. Something that cannot be embellished, pretended or made up. At such moments, a revelation of the Holy God bring a clearer picture of our unworthiness and sensitivity to our sinfulness.
That is the point in which revival fire is ignited. When God’s revelation and manifestation cause us to become aware of how sinful we are, like Habakkuk, we perceive God’s wrath and cry for mercy. No upsurge of religious excitement can reverse such conviction until people’s sense of sin gets their kneels to the ground. No matter how ruthless the reckless jamboree was prior to the entrance of such word; the impact of revival fire is always tenderness of heart and godly sorrow for sin. There is just no doubt that we need this cry for revival. Our consciences need be quickened. Our crookedness needs be straightened. Our love for God and His people needs be totally renewed. We need more of the mercies of the Lord, today than in the day of Habakkuk.
Quote for the Day: “A major evidence of revival is people’s awareness of God followed by profound sensitivity to a heir own sinfulness, followed by sorrow for sin, and a sincere desire for God’s pardon.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, in these days of great darkness and spiritual barrenness, move upon our hearts with a fresh outpouring of Your Spirit. We recognize our need for revival and spiritual awakening; and we ask that You would inspire an acceptable sensitivity to Your word in us—in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
