Mid Year Revival Cry (Part Ten): A Vive to be Contrite and Humble before God

Writer: Dr. Simon OlatunjiDr. Simon Olatunji

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, June 16, 2023

Today’s Text: Isaiah 57:14-21

Key Verses: Isaiah 57:15 (ESV): “For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.”

Why are the ways and models of our days so different? We seems so complicit and complacent at the same time. We seem not even close to the vival of any recorded biblical revival—yet, no one seems to be sober about it—though the glory of the latter day should supersede the former. Instead, at the watch of the Church, our society goes deeper and deeper in its sensual modes and every ideology of our generation are clear evidence of continuing degradation of ethic, degeneration in evil while we continue to exaggerate self.

A realization of personal inadequacies or shortcomings, and the humility to seek divine help are among the major precursors for the kind of revival needed to reverse the negative vibes of this age. That is why the Lord’s word to us remains: “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land (II Chronicles 7:14).

God’s move in our world surpasses all of us—our ego, protocol, achievements and philosophies. Our ability to humble ourselves remains our most forceful expression is revival quest. Take a humble look at today’s text, and you’d find that it is not what we think or say of God that produced the 1904–1905 Welsh Revival, the 1906 Azusa Street Revival, 1909 Chile Revival, 1930 Babalola Revival, 1970s Jesus people, and 1971 Bario Revival; but what God thinks of us. If we desire revival and God thinks we need to humble ourselves before him; then that’s what we need to do.

Quote for the Day: “Revival is a living thing: having everything to do with how we live in relation to God, His word, and our world. It cannot have its power and grip on our world if it does not first have its influence on us.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord Jesus, please open up the channels of my spirit, and lead me to Your deep secrets—in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
