More Valuable in the Sight of God

Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, June 14, 2021

Today’s Text: Matthew 10:24-33

Key Verse: Matthew 10:31 (NKJV): “Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows”

ree

We all have possessions that are so precious to us, which we have bought at a price. We treasures them with the most care. God values values us even more because He created us in His image, and also redeemed us to Himself by sacrificing His own beloved Son. That is such a great price to pay. Unfortunately, in our desire for things, we often lose sight of the worth God placed over us for mere pieces of matter.

In church history, the story of Saint Lawrence a third century deacon in the Church of Rome corroborates today’s text. It teaches that we are worth more than materials. Lawrence was in charge of all holy things, the treasury, vessels of gold and and other precious things. When the emperor commanded him to place all wealth of the church before him, he admitted that the church is rich beyond anyone or anything in the world, and beyond the imagination and awareness of the emperor.

Therefore, he requested for some times to bring forth all the precious possessions of Christ before the emperor. But on the day in which the church’s treasury would be showcased, Lawrence presented a lined up company of ragged and fractured people to the emperor: sick and poor, one with two eyeless sockets, another cripple with a broken knee, a one-legged man, a person with one leg shorter than the other, and others with grave infirmities. He declared: “Behold the riches of the church, and you can have them.” Enraged at being mocked, the emperor ordered Lawrence to be executed in a slow manner.

People are the most precious things on earth. God values you as pearls of great price than you realized. That is why Jesus paid His own life for yours. The text compares the care God has for little and cheap birds like sparrows in an antithetical manner to the special regard, care and providence he shows over us. You reveal the riches of His kingdom. Don’t let the devil weigh you down. Strengthen your heart right now, confess your worth, and celebrate who you are in union with Christ. You are worth more than all of earth’s net worth put together.

Quote for the Day: “In divine economy and providence; God’s’s dealing with us is always fitting to His value of us., His care for us, death of Christ for us, a preparation of a place for us in His eternal glory." (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for Your breathe in my lungs. Thank you for my establishing an identity for me in You. Thank You for fearfully and wonderfully made in your image, in Jesus' name. Amen.

With all my love and prayers,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
