Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, January 16, 2022
Today’s Text: Ecclesiastes 1:12-18
Key Verse: Ecclesiastes 1:14 (ESV): “I have seen everything that is done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and a striving after wind.”

We can all agree that Solomon was indeed blessed with wisdom from above; but did he always make the best use of that gift? As we are much more blessed to have the opportunity to learn wisdom both from his incredibly great gift of wisdom, and his unbelievable pursuit of vanity; would we make the best of it? Solomon was well able to address our generation because he pursued much of life’s emptiness, and can speak of how vain they all are. The world has witnessed great people, stars, noblemen, and famous ladies that made it up to the very top of the world records and standards of greatness; yet ended/end up on suicide, or the brink of suicide. They are perceived as having glories, wealth, power, fame — everything — yet are so unhappy, lacking the needed inner peace.
Perhaps you too can feel that sense of emptiness. You may have been hit by the reality of the hollow life that pervades our culture. We don’t have to read any biography or listen to any more news to find this common human frustration, disappointment, and emptiness. When Jack Higgens, the successful author of The Eagle Has Landed, was asked what he would like to have known as a boy, he said: "That when you get to the top, there's nothing there." The preacher wants all pleasure-seekers to realize that life without God is vanity. The secularistic lifestyle that regards only this world as the highest good, and completely leaves eternity out of sight leads to emptiness and vanity. It profits nothing to gain the whole world and lose one’s own soul. It is so much ado about nothing!
Quote for the Day: “The more enlightened the human hearts becomes of earthly pleasure, the more darkened the glorious light of heavenly treasure becomes.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, I pray that I might wink at earth’s distractions; but be rooted and grounded in Your love, and have strength to comprehend the breadth and length and height and depth of Christ, and be filled with all His fullness — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
