No More Affliction

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Friday, May 15, 2026

Today’s Text: Nahum 1:7–13

Key Verse: Nahum 1:9 (KJV) — “What do ye imagine against the Lord? He will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.”

This prophetic oracle came at a time when Assyria’s shadow still loomed over Judah.; yet it pivots that "The Lord is good, a refuge in trouble for those who trust Him." To the King of Assyria, a prophetic caution was sounded: for though enemies of God's people are at full strength and many, they will be cut down. God will break every yoke from them, and tear their shackles away till their affliction has no second chance. This is both a warning to the enemy and comfort to God's people. God is confronting oppressors while sheltering the faithful to end every affliction for good.

The God we serve is not only able to comfort His people; He is also able to bring an end to the affliction that has tormented them. In today’s text, Nahum consolation comes directly to you, Judah of God, who has been buffetted with oppression, pressure, and fear, declaring that the Lord is good regardless. He is a stronghold in the day of trouble, and a refuge for those who trust in Him. The message is clear: affliction is real, but it is not forever. It is termed: for God surely rises to defend His own.

It is important to understand the context: This prophecy is a word against Nineveh, the cruel and violent empire that had oppressed many. God’s judgment on the wicked foe was not random anger; it was holy justice against their cruelty and rebellion. When the Lord says trouble will not rise up a second time, He is revealing His power to break cycles of oppression and to bring His people into lasting relief. What has been recurring in your life need not continue when God steps in with His righteous verdict.

Affliction often comes to make us feel as though pain has the final word. But the Lord declares otherwise. He does not merely reduce suffering; He can end it. He is the God who shuts the mouth of the oppressor, breaks the hold of the enemy, and turns mourning into peace. His goodness is not theoretical; it is active, protective, and deliverance-producing. When God becomes your stronghold, affliction loses its authority over your future.

This word is also a call to trust. Those who run to God in the day of trouble do not find a weak shelter, but a sure refuge. The same God who sent judgment on Nineveh also knew how to preserve His people in the midst of shaking. So today, do not interpret your pain as proof that God has abandoned you. Instead, see it as the very place where He is showing Himself strong, just, and faithful.

Action Steps: Name every recurring affliction and bring it honestly before the Lord in prayer. Refuse to agree with the lie that your pain will last forever. Trust God as your stronghold and take practical steps of faith toward healing, peace, and obedience. Stand on His word until your heart settles in His goodness and your life reflects His deliverance.

Quote for the Day: “When the Lord says, ‘No more affliction,’ He is announcing that the pain, the torment, and burdens in your life dop not have permission to continue.”— (Simon Olatunji #quotablequotes)

Let Us Pray: Lord, thank You that You are good, strong, and faithful in the day of trouble. I bring every affliction, oppression, and recurring pain before You today. Let Your power bring a complete end to what has tormented me, and let Your peace rule over my life. Be my refuge, my defense, and my deliverance. — in Jesus’ most glorious name. Amen.
