Today’s Text: 2 Corinthians 11:13-15
Key Verses: 2 Corinthians 11:13 (ESV): “For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ.”
In previous chapter, Apostle Paul had addtessed the issue of some false brethren and intruders at Corinth. Some of which had shown acrid hostility to him, the furtherance of the gospel, and the spiritual welfare of the Corinthian Church. It is therefore, here, his concern to see to it that all Christians do diligence in giving careful thoughts to who they are, who they are suppose to be by nature and calling; and to strengthen them to eschew such fake lives lived by those proselytizing the faith.
Several years ago, Charles Swindoll shared a live experience in Long Beach, California. Late one night, a fellow was said to have gone into a fried chicken place to buy a couple of chicken dinners for himself and his date. The fried chicken place was about to close for the night, and the young woman at the counter inadvertently gave him the already bagged cash proceeds from the day to the man instead of bagged fried chicken. Soon, the man discovered they were served money (over $800) instead. Wanting to impress his date, he quickly put the money back in the bag, turned around and drove back to the store. He became an instant hero, and thrilled everyone to death. “You are perhaps the most honest man in town. I need to call the newspaper in at once; and get your picture and date’s in the local newspaper.” Said the store manager. However, the guy quickly declined because, in actual sense, he was perhaps the most dishonest man. He was married to another woman whereas his date that evening is actually somebody else's wife. So, he ended up a fake hero.
Friends, let us not be church fake heroes, and let's make no room for any. The Son of God already manifested to destroy all works of the devil in our lives. Let us lead sober and penitent lives; putting out every shady work of darkness. This was so important that the apostle had to use severely vehement language to describe and oppose those detractors. In the same way, we are admonished that, while not holding personal resentment, we must maintain a stern and righteous indignation against those who sought to live fake lives and undermine the works of Christ, and His just influence. Do not be or allow such men, who by their false lives so hinder the preaching and progress of true gospel.
Quote for the Day: “Perhaps, our world has seen more crafty workers and impostors who are destitute of divine mission in the church than those with perfect and genuine hearts for God.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please search me; and lead my heart to Your truth! Cleanse me and draw me closer to You. Let no guile be ever found in me, in Jesus' name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
