Today’s Text: 1 Timothy 5:17-22
Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 2:4 (NIV): “My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power…“

Some year's ago, when a different wind and wave of the gospel started becoming popular and people seem responding better to the marketing style of preaching the gospel, many of us were tempted to adopt the style. But then, the Lord showed me mercy. He spoke to me in an hotel room in Yaba Lagos Nigeria. I have been invited as a revival preacher at Yaba Baptist Church and people were so expectant and eager to receive God's blessings. I, too, have being in deep spiritual preparation and eagerness for God to use me. So, the Holy Spirit started talking to me about the danger of substituting head knowledge and selfish interest for the way of salvation and the confidence that comes from the power of the gospel itself. The Lord told me that if I do so, I would hinder both myself and the people from experiencing Him.
Have you asked yourself why people are no longer rooted and grounded by faith in God? Why we have so large congregations but no deep Christians in them anymore? Here is why: We all thought that it is by our power and might, therefore, we have resorted into relying on the clearness of our presentation; and to motivational rather than meditational preaching. In today's text, Paul sets an apostolic example that we all should emulate. We must rather rely on the Holy Spirit. We must rely on the certainty of God’s redemptive power. That is the way to see God create His own life in us and in the people we are trying to reach. It is not by dependence on signs and wonders, otherwise, all Jews would have received Christ. And yes, if it had been through rhetoric and philosophy, the Greeks would have almost reserved salvation for themselves. But God's Spirit has his own mode of operation different from the apprehension of carnal natures. God is able to pour the Spirit of power, truth and illumination that rested upon the prophets and apostles upon us. But we must resign from our selves and trust Him alone to do His work.
Quote for the Day: “The gospel is powerful and effective only when the gospellers trusts the Holy Spirit to approach man's spirit in His own true, pure, and genuine way.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, help.me to trust You with my life no matter the difficulty I am right now facing. I choose to embrace path of Your Spirit no matter how difficult. I say not my will, but yours be done, in Jesus' name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, Ph.D.
