Nurture Your Love Coal

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, May 13, 2020

Today’s Text: Matthew 24:4-14

Key Verse: Matthew 24:12 (ASV): “And because iniquity shall be multiplied, the love of the many shall wax cold.”

With much tears, an old man gave a witness account of Nazi holocaust in Germany. He told how the remnant Jews groaned aloud as they were transported in a train. The rail track ran behind a small church, and on a Sunday morning, worshippers had to raise a loud hymn in order not to be tormented by the terribly disturbing cries from the train!  The cries were loud, the train whistle was deafening; but their hymn was raised till they could hear the noise no more. For the man, his love for the Jews, keeps him still hearing the whistles and the cries in his heart after so many decades.

Not many years yet since many Christians came to know the Lord; but the words of their commitment are already totally lost, and initial melodies in their hearts totally gone. Of course, there are loud music in the churches, probably louder ones; but they do not deafen Christians from the noise without. If it does anything, it probably only prevents them from perceiving the wisdom of the message within. Their sorrow for sin, and the whistles of the Spirit that usually wake them from sleep to meditate, pray and walk blocks to share the gospel to the lost is now so faint, faded or forgotten.

As part of His end time warning, Christ says that when these happen, they are natural result of increased lawlessness, and they signal the close of ages. It’s high time we look around us: the evil days are here. We must beware lest the iniquities of our generation weigh very injuriously on our spirit and cause the foretold sad chilling of our first love.

Quote for the Day: "Winds and tides may blow upon our hearts’ sail; but our anchor remains Christ who holds us; and our love for Him must grow unfeigned.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord Jesus, keep me growing and standing strong in your love till the end. In your most precious name, Amen.

With all my love and prayer,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
