Today's Text: Luke 22:17-19
Key Verse: Luke 22:19 (KJV): "And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me."

Our Lord Jesus sets the perfect example of gratitude, even in the midst of sorrow and sacrifice. On the eve of His suffering, surrounded by disciples and knowing the cross awaited, Jesus paused to give thanks. This act of thanksgiving was not mere routine, but a declaration of faith, trust, and surrender to the Father’s will. Giving thanks, especially in hard places, is a holy posture—one that turns hearts upward to God’s goodness beyond circumstance.
Thankfulness in Christ’s life teaches us the true strength found in gratitude. By blessing and breaking bread, Jesus transformed an ordinary supper into a powerful symbol of hope and redemption. His gratitude confirmed that God’s purposes prevail, even when shrouded in mystery or fear. Giving thanks in every season invites God’s power into our story—it sanctifies each moment and draws us closer to the heart of our Savior.
Gratitude shifts our focus from what is lacking to what God has lovingly provided. In remembering how Christ gave thanks, we learn to trace God’s hand in both joy and adversity. A thankful spirit resists bitterness, defies despair, and ushers in fresh grace. When we emulate our Lord’s thankfulness, we find strength to endure, wisdom to discern, and peace to stand firm.
Why give thanks as Jesus did? Because thanksgiving is a key to deeper fellowship with God. It unlocks freedom from fear, releases the burdens of regret, and invites the presence of the Holy Spirit. To give thanks is to participate in heaven’s perspective—it affirms that God is working for good, even when answers seem hidden. Through gratitude, we enter the rhythm of God’s love: receiving, rejoicing, and remembering His faithfulness.
For believers, thanking God as Christ did brings renewal. It aligns our hearts with heaven’s agenda, transforms routine into worship, and testifies to the world about a Savior who gave thanks in all things. Let our thanks rise daily, joining the chorus of praise begun by Jesus Himself, so that our lives mirror His grace and glory.
Action Steps: Set aside time today to follow Jesus’ example of giving thanks. Reflect on a moment, a meal, or a blessing received, and offer heartfelt gratitude to God. Invite Him to deepen your appreciation for both ordinary and extraordinary gifts. Pray for a thankful heart in difficult circumstances, and seek ways to express gratitude to those around you.
Quote for the Day: "Thankfulness is not reserved for easy days, but is the sacred act of recognizing God’s hand even in broken bread and uncertain paths." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)
Let Us Pray: Gracious God, thank You for the example of Jesus, who gave thanks and taught us to do the same. Fill my spirit with gratitude in every situation, and lead me to trust Your purpose behind each blessing and trial. May my life reflect Your generosity, and may my heart overflow in thanksgiving. Use me to spread the joy and hope of Christ, wherever I go. Amen.
