Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, December 27, 2021
Today’s Text: Judges 6:11-24
Key Verse: Judges 6:11 (NIV): “The angel of the LORD came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites.”

When people slip away from God's guidance, they find themselves in inevitable trouble. That was the case of Gideon and the rest of Israel at the time this scripture was written. The question is just what does it take to slip away? I mean what is the enemy looking for to jolt anyone into that mode of shaking. It may, and may not, be the situation of sin as with Israel. It may be that we get so busy—too busy—for God that we are derailed and distracted from divine purpose. Or, it may be that we fail to seek God's will and purpose for our lives—a lifestyle that is already a mark of our postmodern generation.
Friends, as we face this moment of intention and decision—when we all look forward with eager hopes to a new year; when the opportunity to shape a new life and a new hope is before us. We may have been down in the winepress, hiding and ridden by fear of the unknown. Let us learn from Gideon’s experience. Bad things happen; and when they do, yes, we may not have all the answers, but we do learn from the story that when we turn to God, He always makes a way.
God is good. He is faithful, forgiving and merciful. Whatever the case may be with and for us, we can cry out to God and find help. As we stand in the turn of another year, we have the privilege to anchor the coming year(/s) upon the loving kindness of the Lord. Like the angel told Gideon that God was with him, I tell you: God is with us, also, today, in our struggles. He will surely help us against any limitation and opposition. Turn and cry to God, and no longer shall you have to hide, and thresh, in the winepress. He will bring you out to your threshing floor where your harvest can be bettered—where can boldly and joyfully separate your grains from straw.
Quote for the Day: “Gideon’s valor is not in the threshing floor; but it is from there. God uses those down moments of our lives to bring us out.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, bring me out of the threshing floor: and confront me with the valor that You have placed in me— in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
