Overcoming Weariness

Daily Scripture Threshing for Sunday, March 21, 2021

Today’s Text: 1 Kings 19:1-8

Key Verse: 1 Kings 19:7 (NIV) — “The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.”

Life is more complex and diverse than any of us could ever realize. Sometimes we are up there as though in the highest mountain, and at the next moment we find ourselves so down as though in the lowest valley. If we like it, we can call it mood swing; but the reality before us today is much deeper than that. Looking at scriptural biographies is like looking at our family albums. We see real men and women there who are just like us. They have gone this way before. They had their own share of hot and cold. The traversed the waterloos and leave us examples.

If, like Peter, you enjoy the feeling of Mount Olive and you want to dwell atop the mountain of transfiguration, I won’t blame you; I feel like that too. But remember that the lifetime stories of Moses and Elijah were filled with odds and cramps just like yours. They suffered exhaustion, went through burn out, and had their own share of life’s bitter cups. And above all, we must remember that the third person of the mount is also the fourth person in the furnace. However, our Lord knows you because He went through the agonies of life, of Gethsemane and of Calvary. Understanding these things will help all of us overcome weariness — of the body, soul and spirit. Our Lord pities us, and feels for us. He is our High Priest. He is touched with the feeling of our infirmities. He sent His angel to strengthen Elijah. He will strengthen you. Shake off that weariness. Feed upon these words, and take your journey.

Quote for the Day: “When you let the voice of evil fasten it’s poisonous grip on your heart; your confidence will break down and you will turn your back on the enemy.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: O Lord God of heaven, fill me with new strength. Encourage me for the next level journey, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.

Have a fabulous Saturday,

Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
