Today’s Text: Psalm 66:5-12
Key Verses: Psalm 66:12 (ESV): “You let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance.”

The human agency is originally sociable—created to deal in love, tranquillity, and supporting one another to be strong. Unfortunately, because of the Fall, we become overthrowers and tramplers of one another. We should help and keep others up; but we ride over them and tread them under foot. Sad enough, this is not only true in fallen humanity; but even truer in religion. The greatest danger that befalls man unfortunately most often comes from man himself. Brute beasts don’t fight their own kinds; and serpents don’t spend their venom on other serpents; but a member of a man’s household is his enemy, working mischief to his our own kind.
The pain is real when one ever finds himself in this reality. And, sometimes, the ride is inescapable. Our leaders have horses but they find no delight in riding them. The way is broad enough that they might well miss the poor, but they don’t feel powerful except they ride over us. This Psalm points us to a spiritual reflection that calls for patience in this situation. He reveals that men are able to ride over our heads because God allows it for a purpose. We should therefore perceive providence and be patient. Christ’s disciples were at a tempestuous sea, tossed and covered with waves; but Christ was there to turn the situation to a most quieted scene (Mt 8:24). We’ve got to be patient to perceive the providence of God, turning our trampling into a place of wealthy abundance.
Quote for the Day: “For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.” (Prophet Jeremiah)
Prayer: Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel ones. I run to You, Lord of the oppressed, in my weakness, and helplessness: to deliver me from the little esteem that people have of me and to bring me to your place of wealthy abundance — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
