Piety and Prosperity (Part One)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Friday, March 13 2020

Today’s Text: 3 John 1:1-14

Key Verse: 3 John 1:2 (NLT): ”Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.”

A study conducted by sociologists at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana reveals that people who regularly go to church appear to be generally healthier compared to people who do not. 4 percent of their church going sample reported poor health, compared with 9 percent of the non church going. 36 percent of weekly worshippers reported they were in excellent health, compared with 26 percent of non-attenders.

While the reason for such difference is unclear to researchers, we understand that believers in Christ operate under a guaranteed spiritual health insurance. Today’s text reveals that prosperity of our bodily health is one of God's best gifts to us. God wants His people to have healthy body to be able to exercise spiritual duties. If we excel in spiritual health, we have a hope to also do so bodily. In this season of viral challenges, may this promise be yours, in Jesus name. Amen.
