Daily Scripture Threshing for Saturday, March 14 2020
Today’s Text: 3 John 1:1-14
Key Verse: 3 John 1:2 (KJV): ”Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
There is more to today’s text than “a believe it and claim it” theology. It was addressed to Caius, a believer of whom the apostle John had confidence when it comes to manifest presence of Christ, attested to by prosperous Christian life and consistency. John’s testimony shows that the presence of the truth in Caius had been practically tested.
This truth is attested to by the apostle’s use of “thou,” an emphatic pronoun, showing that there were others (like Demas and Diotrephes) of whom this could not be said. Therefore, it is not enough for us to just sit idle on a complacent “confess it and claim it” Christianity. Prosperity of our soul in union with Christ is necessary to (and more important than) bodily prosperity.
Quote for the Day: "From the days of Christ through John’s, and up to this very moment, health of the soul comes first.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me not to place premium on perishable prosperity above my soul’s, in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
