Power to Get Wealth

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Tuesday, June 16, 2026

Today’s Text: Deuteronomy 8:11–18

Key Verse: Deuteronomy 8:18 (ESV) — “You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”

This text is a part of Moses's final speech to Israel right before they enter Canaan. God moved him to warn them not to forget Him once they get prosperous land, houses, and wealth. The remedy is to remember that it is God who gives “the ability to produce wealth,” not just our own strength. The whole chapter is about dependence: wilderness hardship was to humble them, and future blessing was to test whether they’d stay grateful and obedient. Friends, prosperity is never self-made. So, never forget God when you enter abundance, because the danger of success is the illusion that our strength, skill, or intelligence is our source of blessing.

The quicker we learn the truth that every promotion, every open door, every increase, and every lasting fruitfulness comes from the Lord who gives power to get wealth; the quicker we pass from test to testimony. This message came to a people about to enter the promised land after wilderness testing. God had fed them, led them, humbled them, and preserved them, so that when wealth came, they would not become proud and say, “My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.” The Lord directly corrects that mindset by declaring that it is He who gives power to get wealth, not merely for comfort, but to confirm His covenant and display His faithfulness.

This means wealth in any form is never an end in itself; it is stewardship under God’s authority. The blessing of the Lord brings substance, but it also brings responsibility, humility, and covenant purpose. Genuine prosperity is not simply about having more, but about recognizing that God is the source, God is the sustainer, and God is the one who can lift a person from obscurity to honor. When God promotes, no human can boast, and when God enriches, no enemy can ultimately diminish.

What must we take home from this truth? Set your heart on tge Blesser, not the blessing. Celebrate the giver and never think your blessings are self-made success. While diligence, wisdom, and excellence matter, they are never replacements for divine favor. The believer must learn to work faithfully while depending fully on God, because blessings, promotions, and prosperity come from His hand alone. When the Lord gives the ability to prosper, He also gives the grace to remain grateful, generous, and grounded.

Action Steps: Today, examine your heart for any hidden pride about your achievements, progress, or resources. Thank God specifically for every open door, opportunity, increase, and promotion in your life. Commit your work, plans, and finances to the Lord, asking Him to bless what He has assigned you to do. Use your prosperity as a testimony of His covenant faithfulness, not as a reason for self-exaltation.

Let Us Pray: Lord, I thank You because every good gift and every true increase come from You. Deliver me from pride, self-reliance, and the deception of forgetting You in seasons of blessing. Give me power to get wealth according to Your will, and make every blessing in my life serve Your covenant purpose. Teach me to honor You in prosperity, to steward well what You provide, and to remain humble before You always. In Jesus’ most glorious name. Amen.
