Today’s Text: James 5:13-18
Key Verse: James 5:15 (ESV): “And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.”

Yesterday, our meditation centered on believers’ need for prayer. Yes, indeed, that need is intense, and can never be over emphasized. The same idea is so important to Apostle James that he rounds up his admonition on true Christianity on the place, power and purpose of prayer. He punctuates every verse of our text today with the words “pray” or “prayer” so that they occur up to seven times in the passage. To this apostle, no better theme is more important to wind down this all-important treatise on true Christianity. Why? Because nothing else fuels true faith like prayer of faith, or praying by faith.
In this passage, James wants God’s people to know that the resources of heaven are available to every aspect of our lives as praying children of God. He knows of nothing that may be on our minds, on our paths, or in our lives that may not be taken to God by prayer; or tackled by it. In fact, to him, genuine faith puts us in a vantage position to ask anything by faith. He stresses the reason it is important to ask by faith: anyone who is double minded cannot receive anything from God.
Therefore, as the journey of another month opens before us; let us be reminded that we have a God who is also our Father, who cares, and is ever near. His ears are always attentive to our requests when we trust Him. Let us always approach His throne of grace by faith. The good news is that no matter our condition or situation—whether we are heavy-hearted or happy hearted, suffering or cheerful, we always have access to God, and we can pray (and be saved) by faith.
Quote for the Day: “We are not permitted to allow trying times to crush our spirit. There will always be trials of faith; but there is always the triumph of faith when we learn to pray by faith.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please strengthen my faith in You so that none of these worldly trials and tribulations would ever make me feel defeated. Always remind me that You already won every battle for me; and let that embolden my soul to always trust you in prayer — in Jesus Christ's name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
