Daily Scripture Threshing for Monday, March 30, 2020
Today’s Text: Luke 19:1-10
Key Verse: Luke 19:5 (ESV): ”When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today.”
Zacchaeus lived in one of the major chosen cities of priests, Pharisees and rulers of synagogues of his days; but Jesus was not out looking for those who drown in the cesspools of religiosity that doesn’t go deeper than their skin. He is looking for genuine seekers, who will do everything just to find Him.
The Lord passed over homes of religious folks to pass the night in that of a publican. Who would you chose to be at this trying moment—someone with forms of godliness that denies the power thereof, or the sincere seeker that finds Jesus? The text admonishes is to lose no opportunity but act in timely manner as though days of visitation are limited. It’s high time to come down from pride, arrogance, and vain religiosity; and welcome Jesus.
Quote for the Day: "Religiosity that fails
to get past the skin and touch the very core of the soul is vanity, or at best, mere churchinanity.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me and help our age not to be swallowed in the darkness of religion, in Jesus Christ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayer,
Rev Simon Wale Olatunji, PhD
