Today’s Text: Psalm 49:1-20
Key Verse: Psalm 49:13 (NKJV): “This is the way of those who are foolish, and of their posterity who approve their sayings. Selah”

In the generation when it no longer matters what you do as long as you believe in it—an age of unbridled moral relativism; when greed, tumultuous politics and selfishness are at their highest points—comes the word of the Lord to remind us of the vanity and folly of unbridled appetites. From a Psalm which holds its title to the Sons of Korah, we are called to learn a life’s salient lesson. Who are these Sons of Korah and why are they qualified to sound this caution? Their fathers acted foolishly by plotting a selfish agenda that led to their ruin. But God reserved a generation out their ruin to, now, sound the alarm about the common end of all men: low, great, rich or poor.
The present growing leadership tension in Africa, America and all over the world are a pointer to the wisdom of the Sons of Korah and foolishness of those who place their trust in power and possession. It is great folly to set one’s thoughts on material things. If you are blessed with riches and fame, never let yourself be flattered to falter because of it. Take a moment and see how Sons of Korah highlights timeless human inner thoughts of folly. Thoughts which puffs men up to their self-destruction. When men can praise you, don’t let yourself puff; or when they can mock you, never let your heart melt or become oppressed by the prosperity of the wicked. Nothing abides except the goodwill of God toward men. No obsession or boasting about personal riches abide. It is only foolish men who dwell on blessings while they despise the Blesser; and celebrate created things and denigrate the creator. We must quit that folly.
Quote for the Day: “I find just one thing common to all rich and powerful men: the infatuation and flattery to trust in prosperity and hope in perpetuity.” (Simon Olatunji)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to put my trust in you rather than in power, wealth or fame. Love for material things are real and besetting, but please help me to love and seek you more than anything else. Fill my heart with wisdom to guide and direct my steps each day — in Jesus’ name. Amen.
With all my love and prayers,
