Restoring Faulty Foundations (Part Three)

Daily Scripture Threshing for Thursday, February 13, 2020

Our Text: Proverbs 18:22-24

Key Verses: Proverbs 18:24 (GNT): “He that maketh many friends doeth it to his own destruction: but there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

Our devotional thought today is on foundations of friendship. God cares about who our friends are. Friendship can bring a man to safety or to ruin. God’s word presents us worthy example of David and Jonathan kind of friendship; but do you ever considered that Ahithophel too was a friend of David? Ahah was also an ungodly friend of a godly man called Jehoshaphat—an alliance that almost costed Jehoshaphathis life. And of course, there is a friend of sinners, who lays down his life for his friends.

Who is a true friend? What does it take to maintain godly friendships that will not lure us away from the source of grace? These are, or should be, our questions as we retrace and restore the faulty foundations of friendship in our life. Because whether we like it or not friends enter and touch our lives more deeply than we realize. Therefore, if you realize that you’ve not chosen your friends wisely, you can still save yourself from the devastating consequences of wrong alliance by calling on the one true friend that sticks closer than a brother. His name is Jesus.

Quote for the Day: "People say no friend. Like Jesus, but if you truly know Jesus then you’d say no other friend at beside him.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Lord, teach me to walk in your love, and to be your living reflection on earth, in Jesus name. Amen.

With all my love and prayer,
