Resurfacing of a Burried Resource

Daily Scripture Threshing for Today, Saturday, May 17, 2025

Today's Text: 2 Kings 6:1-7

Key Verse: 2 Kings 6:6 (NIV): "The man of God asked, ‘Where did it fall?’ When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float."

As skilled craftsmen, we meticulously works with our tools, and keep them handy and secure. We ensure each tool is sharp and effective for the task at hand and ahead. But, don't we, like these sons of prophet, encounter moments in which those tools – our resources, relationships, abilities, or even our sense of purpose – feel lost or ineffective? The story of the lost axe head speaks powerfully to how God intervenes in the seemingly small details of our lives to show and proof His care and to restore whatever we've lost. Of course, we all, like the sons of the prophets, can be concerned about a practical problem that affect our ability to function. But like them, we too can recognize our need and seek help.

Elisha, the man of God, didn't dismiss their concern as trivial. God never takes lightly whatever touches us. He understands the significance of our loss, and He will act. Asking for the location, and through divine intervention, causing the iron axe head to float wasn't just about retrieving a lost item; it was a demonstration of God's power to restore and provide, even in the midst of ordinary circumstances. All of us, like these prophets, rely on various tools in our daily lives and in our service to God. When these are lost or seem irretrievable, it can lead to frustration and hinder our progress.

We can always rejoice because we serve the God who brings about miraculous recoveries. We can trust that God who is interested in all details of our lives and is able to restore whatever we have lost, whether it be material possessions, opportunities, or even our zeal. Unfortunately, we often underestimate God's willingness to intervene in the practical aspects of our lives. We may feel that some problems are too small for His attention or too far gone for His intervention. The authorian purpose of this passage is to remind us that nothing is beyond God’s reach. Seeking His guidance and following His instructions, whether in seemingly minor matters, or a rather difficult extreme, will always end in extraordinary results.

Action Steps: What is that "axe heads" in your life that feel lost or irretrievable: a tangible resource, a relationship, a sense of direction, or a spiritual gift that seems dormant? Bring these to God in prayer, specifically asking for His intervention and restoration. Have faith in Him who cares about every detail of your life and has the power to bring about miraculous recovery.

Quote for the Day: "The power of Christ that caused the iron axe head to float is the same today. He is more than able to restore whatever is lost in our lives. Nothing is beyond His power and care." (Simon Olatunji #quotablequote)

Let Us Pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your attentiveness to the details of our lives. We bring before You those areas where we feel we have lost our "axe head" – those resources, opportunities, or sense of purpose that seem irretrievable. We ask for Your divine intervention, trusting in Your power to restore what has been lost. Give us the wisdom to seek Your guidance and the faith to follow Your instructions. May we always remember that nothing is too small or too difficult for Your mighty hand — in Jesus's precious name. Amen.
