Run Your Race

Daily Scripture Threshing for Wednesday, April 6, 2022

Today’s Text: I Corinthians 9:24-27

Key Verse: I Corinthians 9:24 (KJV): “Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.”

Following Christ is a real race, and a marathon for that matter. Therefore, each believer in Christ needs to be ready for it. We must bear in mind that it is difficult for an unprepared athlete to follow through to the end of a marathon. The essence of Paul’s admonition in today’s passage is to encourage us to be ready to run our individual races without being competitive. It is a race that everyone runs for his own reward. The earliest apostles ran the same while avoiding all shades of cultural and secular trappings. They stayed on course and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ! They did not have time for distraction, or they did not allow it.

Athletes in secular Olympics struggle to gain attention and win a prize. These goals keep them in the gyms, on the fields, and everywhere, doing everything possible to win a trophy that is nothing compared to the glory that we shall receive if we run our race well. Earthly prizes are temporary and perishable, but the prizes of Christ’s calling are eternal and imperishable. But we have a lesson that the apostle wants us to learn from earthly races: not everyone wins it, yet everyone strives. So, how much more should we all strive for the race in which grace is available for all?! Why not strive to win a glorious crown in/through Christ? Why not strive not to take the grace of God for granted, or in vain?

Quote for the Day: “The motivation to run is always the gain: whether it is an athlete’s prize, or a bodily fitness, or spiritual crown of glory. There is always gain for a race.” (Simon Olatunji)

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for the opportunity to run the race that is marked out for me each day. Please help me run it well with endurance and passion, and not be entangled by sin — in Jesus’ name. Amen.

With all my Love and Prayers,
